Frequently Asked Questions

GLP-1, or glucagon-like peptide-1, is a hormone produced in the intestines. It plays a key role in regulating blood sugar levels by stimulating insulin secretion, inhibiting glucagon release, and slowing gastric emptying. GLP-1 also helps reduce appetite, making it important for weight management. Because of these effects, GLP-1 receptor agonists are often used in medications to treat type 2 diabetes and support weight loss.

GIP (gastric inhibitory polypeptide) and GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) are both incretin hormones produced in the gut. They play crucial roles in regulating glucose metabolism.

  • GIP: Primarily stimulates insulin secretion in response to food intake and helps inhibit gastric motility.
  • GLP-1: In addition to enhancing insulin secretion, GLP-1 also inhibits glucagon release, slows gastric emptying, and promotes feelings of fullness, contributing to weight management.

Together, GIP and GLP-1 help coordinate the body’s response to meals, improving blood sugar control and influencing appetite regulation.

Yes, When a drug is in shortage, compounders may be able to prepare a compounded version of that drug if they meet certain requirements in the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic (FD&C) Act. As of May 2023, GLP-1 medications are listed on FDA’s Drug Shortages list.

Both GLP-1 and Dual GIP/GLP-1 weight management programs offer significant benefits, including effective weight loss, improved metabolic health, and better control over blood sugar levels, leading to a healthier and more vibrant lifestyle.

While GLP-1 and Dual GIP/GLP-1 weight management programs are effective for many individuals, they may not be suitable for everyone. It's essential to consult with a healthcare professional to determine if these programs are right for you, considering factors such as medical history, current health status, and individual health goals.

Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and constipation are some of the most common side effects. These symptoms are usually most noticeable at the beginning of treatment and may lessen with time. Reduced appetite is frequent, leading to weight loss in users. Heartburn or acid reflux may also be experienced by some.

Weight loss varies from person-to-person, but research studies have shown a weight reduction of up to 20% of body weight. A larger dose of medication typically leads to increased weight reduction, and the likelihood of success improves when it is paired with a nutritious diet and regular physical activity.

The once-a-week injection is given into the subcutaneous fat (fatty tissue) under the skin and can be administered in the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm. It's advisable to rotate the injection sites to avoid tissue damage or irritation. Many patients report less nausea when injected in the thigh.
